What's happening in Community Ed.....

YOUTH BASKETBALL

The winter season is off to an exciting start with 52 young boys and girls out for traveling basketball at MCC in Grades 4-6. The 4th-6th grade teams began practice the end of November and will continue to work hard over the next several weeks to prepare for their league games at surround schools on Saturdays.

We invite you to come out and support our young Rebels as they showcase their talents at our MCC home games. The 5th and 6th Grade girls will play at home on Saturday, January 20, starting at 9:00 am and the 5th and 6th Grade boys will play on Saturday, February 17 beginning at 8:30 am, both in the MCC Practice Gym. Check out the full 4th-6th grade schedule on our school’s website under the Community Ed. webpage.

Special thanks to all our wonderful volunteer coaches who share their time and talents. Without you, our youth basketball program would not be possible!

Along with traveling basketball, athletes are also involved in Hoop League and K-3 basketball clinic. The hoop league is designed to provide a convenient basketball option to all students in grades 3-6 to help learn, develop, and expand basketball skills. Sessions are led by coaches and players of the MCC Boys and Girls Basketball teams. The K-3 basketball clinic is available for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to help learn the fundamentals of basketball and skill development while being assisted by some of the MCC Rebel Basketball players.

CHEER CLINIC

The cheer clinic is scheduled for Friday, January 26. The young cheerleaders will learn the basics of cheerleading at the interactive cheerleading clinic taught by MCC cheerleaders. The cheers learned at the clinic will be performed for their friends and family at the Girls Varsity Basketball halftime show. The cheer clinic will be from 3:15-5:00 pm at the MCC West Elementary Gym with the performance to follow.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

The batting cage, in the practice gym, will be dropped down on Sunday evenings starting in January. Baseball and Softball players in grades 7-12 can use this time to get ready for the upcoming season. There will be a supervisor to help with any drills or skills the players want to work on.

WIGGLE-A-WHILE

Wiggle-A-While is an opportunity for children Birth-7 and their families to participate in an open gym and swim time just for them to get those wiggles out! Age-appropriate active play will be available in a supervised setting on Sundays from 4:00-5:30 pm (open gym) at the West Elementary Gym and 1:00-4:00 pm (open swim) at the Fulda Swimming Pool. An adult must attend with the child. Sponsored by the Murray County Early Childhood Initiative. This program is free of charge. Please see the Community Ed. Brochure for more information.

OPEN GYM

Open gym takes place on Sunday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 pm at the MCC Central Gymnasium. The gym is open to all ages during this time to work on basketball skills, get a great workout or to just beat the winter blahs. Open gym will be closed on Sunday, December 24th due to the holidays and on February 11th for Super Bowl Sunday.

Adults get a chance to get a little exercise during adult basketball on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm in the practice gym. It’s great way to help stay in shape over the winter!

As the holidays approach, many of us find ourselves indulging in extra treats and goodies.  From family gatherings to office parties and everything in between, the holidays are filled with every culinary temptation imaginable!  As the new year arrives, many of us find we have packed on a few pounds and are feeling a little less motivated.  Experts say the best thing you can do is to just KEEP MOVING!  MCC Community Education wants to help you with just that – keeping you moving!

Happy Holidays!
