HIgh School

Rebel Roundup- 9/15/25

It's hard to believe that another school year has arrived.  I hope everyone had a great summer and took some time to relax and recharge with family and friends.  With two and a half weeks under our belt here at MCC, students are beginning to settle into the school routine.  It feels good to be getting back in the swing of things and have the hallways and classrooms full once again.

During our annual back to school assembly this year we discussed things that get in the way of being our best selves and the best students we can be.  We talked about the “weeds” that choke out the growth we want to see as individuals.  We discussed distractions, negative environments, peer pressure, getting enough rest, and procrastination among other things.  We also discussed support for digging up some of those weeds and the fact that our teachers and counseling staff stand ready to support our students as needed.  At MCC we believe in continual improvement and that there is always room for growth.

We also set goals this year related to our student achievement as based on our annual Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) data.  Specifically, at the elementary and high school this year we are working to improve our math scores.  While we will always set goals to get better, our district continues to do well- scoring significantly above state average in all assessed areas.  In fact, when we compare our district’s proficiency scores to the schools in our area of southwest Minnesota, we ranked second in reading and third in math overall.  We talk a lot about a tradition of excellence here at MCC.  Over the last several years, we have consistently ranked in the top three districts in SWMN.  We attribute this success to the hard work of our students, tireless effort of our staff, and full support of our community all working together to provide opportunities for students to achieve their highest potential.  Everyone from our teachers, volunteers, support staff, community members, students and parents deserve recognition for this accomplishment.  Thank you for the work you do on a daily basis to ensure every child is successful in school and life.

As we look at the calendar, we are very excited for homecoming this week and the traditions that come with this special time.  Homecoming kicked off on Saturday Sept. 13th at 7:00pm with our Powder Puff Football Game.  There will be many other events throughout the week as well including iron man volleyball, dodgeball, a pickleball tournament and class wars.  Coronation will be on Monday Sept. 15th at 8:00pm in the auditorium.  On Friday, Sept. 19th we will have the Pepfest at 1:35pm, Parade at 2:30pm, and Football game at 7:00pm.  Homecoming and its traditions help to build our school spirit and our sense of Rebel Pride.  It helps to reinforce the values of our school and establishes a firm foundation for the entire year.  We are off to a great start here at MCC.

As we move forward this year, I want you to know that I look forward to working with our community to help make our district the best place it can be.  It truly takes all of us working together to help develop the potential in every student.  Thank you for your support.

Go Rebels!
