We are excited to host a Literacy Night at MCC West Elementary on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 PM for families with students in Grades K–3.

The evening is designed to be both fun and informative as we continue to support our students in becoming strong readers. Families will have the opportunity to explore stations focused on the five key skills that help children become successful readers: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These stations will include simple activities, games, and ideas that parents can easily use at home to support reading development.

During the event, students will get to participate in “Bingo for Books,” where they can play fun literacy-themed bingo games and win books to take home. While students are enjoying bingo, parents will have the opportunity to attend a short informational session where we will discuss topics such as:

  • How the brain learns to read

  • How children develop as readers over time

  • The five key components of reading instruction

  • What reading development looks like as students grow

Our goal for the evening is to help families better understand how reading develops while also providing practical ideas to support literacy at home.

We hope you can join us for this great evening of learning and fun. Supporting reading together makes a big difference for our students!
