Murray County Central Schools is proud to announce the installation of a new hydration station in the high school cafeteria, another step forward in our ongoing commitment to student health, wellness, and academic success.
This modern hydration station provides students and staff with easy access to clean, filtered drinking water during each of the breakfast and lunch times and also throughout the school day. Designed for both convenience and sustainability, the station allows users to quickly refill reusable water bottles, helping to reduce reliance on single-use plastics while encouraging environmentally responsible habits. Students and staff are also able to use the fountain in the traditional manner of drinking from the stream. Previously, the kitchen staff needed to fill a cooler each day for access to drinking water in the cafeteria.
The benefits of proper hydration are well-documented and far-reaching. Staying adequately hydrated supports improved concentration, cognitive function, and energy levels—critical components for student learning and performance. Additionally, regular water consumption contributes to better physical health by aiding digestion, regulating body temperature, and supporting overall wellness. By making water more accessible and appealing, we aim to encourage healthier beverage choices among our students.
This initiative also supports oral health. Choosing water over sugary drinks helps reduce the risk of tooth decay and supports long-term dental health, an important factor in overall well-being.
We are grateful to acknowledge that funding for this project has been made possible through the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the initiative Minnesota Actions to Improve Oral Health Outcomes in the 21st Century. Their support has been instrumental in bringing this valuable resource to our school community.
At Murray County Central, we believe that small improvements can lead to meaningful impacts. The addition of this hydration station reflects our dedication to creating a healthy, supportive environment where all students can thrive.
We encourage students and staff to take advantage of this new resource and to make hydration a regular part of their daily routine.
